Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Brownsville, Tennessee. She began her career in music in the early 1950s, singing with various local bands. In 1958, she met Ike Turner, and the two began a musical partnership that would last for more than a decade.
As the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, Turner became a star in the 1960s and 1970s. The band released a string of hit albums and singles, including "River Deep – Mountain High", "Proud Mary", and "Nutbush City Limits". Turner was also known for her energetic live performances, which earned her the nickname "The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll".
In 1976, Turner left Ike Turner after years of abuse. She then embarked on a successful solo career, releasing the albums "Private Dancer" (1984) and "Break Every Rule" (1986). Both albums were major commercial successes, and Turner won a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for "What's Love Got to Do with It", the lead single from "Private Dancer".
Turner continued to tour and record throughout the 1990s and 2000s. She retired from touring in 2009, but continued to release new music. In 2018, she released her autobiography, "Tina Turner: My Life".
